A Natural Miracle - How Antioxidants Can Benefit Your Health

How do antioxidants benefit your health?

Because they work at the most basic and all-encompassing level. They work in all cells in every part of your body. In the last couple of decades the knowledge about the Health Benefits of Antioxidants has taken an upsurge and people are reporting experiencing benefits in a large range of specific areas.

If we lived in a perfect world, we wouldn't have to enhance our dietary intake. But the world as we know it has many aspects that have an effect on our general health. Pollution, cigarette smoke, alcohol, the reduction in the ozone layer, carcinogens in our foodstuffs, increased mental stress due to a faster-paced lifestyle are just a few.

Simply living life with all these factors can accelerate the oxidation process causing the creation of free radicals. Free radicals destroy healthy cells when not held in check by the body's antioxidants. Free radicals are believed to play a role in many diseases and accelerating the aging processes.

Some of the reported health benefits attributed to antioxidants include the following:

  • Better cognitive function
  • Improved memory
  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Improved cold and flu resistance
  • Increased energy
  • Enhanced circulation
  • Healthier digestion
  • Better sleep
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Reduced LDL (bad cholesterol)

In fact there are very few modern diseases that are not thought attributable to oxidative stress. These include Alzheimer's disease,1 Parkinson's disease,2 and neurodegeneration in motor neuron diseases,3 to name a few.

Cardiovascular Disease is one disease where the role oxidative stress plays is considered to be fairly accepted. Enzogenol was studied in clinical trials regarding the effect on cardiovascular health. Improvements in blood flow, reduction of plasma viscosity and reduction of the systolic blood pressure in subjects suggest that after the 12 week supplementation trial improvements were confirmed in the cardiovascular system. 4

An important benefit of antioxidants is their ability to counteract the damage to cells caused by free radicals. The body produces potent antioxidants such as Coenzyme-Q10, Glutathione, and Melatonin to name a few. A problem arises when we age, in that the production of antioxidants decreases. Without adequate quantities the benefits of antioxidants is diminished leaving us susceptible to disease and accelerated cellular damage.

In these circumstances taking an antioxidant supplement to maintain levels at a productive intensity allows us to still benefit health wise from their properties. Enzogenol is a natural broad spectrum antioxidant supplement distilled from New Zealand pine bark and as such is able to provide a wide range of health benefits.

A 12 week clinical trial of Enzogenol produced amazing results. When tested in basic solution Enzogenol was 13 times more effective as an antioxidant than Vitamin C. Enzogenol was also tested in aqueous and acidic solution, where its potency as an antioxidant was higher than Vitamin C, catechin and other bark, as well as grape seed and grape skin extracts. 5

This is interesting because for many years grape seed extract was considered to contain more antioxidant health benefits for two reasons.

It has a 10% higher yield than pine bark of proanthocyanidins. Proanthocyanidins are 50 times more effective than Vitamin E and 20 times more effective than Vitamin C as antioxidants.

Grape seed extract contains a specific proanthocyanidin that has a higher degree of free radical scavenging potential.

This study would seem to bring those previous assumptions into question. There is still a great deal of research to be done into the potential health benefits of antioxidants. However, as more studies take place there is growing evidence that the Benefits from Supplements are not to be taken lightly.

When it comes to the latest research on antioxidants, I strongly recommend a high-quality resource called and Grab their Free eBook called 'The Secret Formula To A Long Healthier Life' Jenny Wallis is continually researching and sharing the benefits of pine bark extract on human health conditions. With a special focus on brain conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, Parkinson's, ADHD and many more.
